This piece plays with our expectations of furniture; usually so obedient, quietly staying where we put it, never surprising us. But what if furniture could astound, astonish… even startle? What if your chair sobbed when you stood up? What if your sofa snored through your favorite film? And what if your lamp… laughed?
This Lamp is no ordinary lamp. It’s humorous, mischievous, a light that laughs with you, at you, or among you, depending on how you see it.
Made of concrete, metal, steel, fabric, light, and sound, its body is as hybrid as its personality. A microcontroller and motion sensor give it a nervous system, letting it react, disrupt, and delight.

What if your lamp could laugh?
For the first time ever I presented a favorite artwork of mine; Laughing Lamp. This absolutely absurd project with no ties to reason originated in my classes at the @royalacademyofart.thehague with @gert_dumbar titled “Humor as a Strategy for Design”. The most important thing I learned from Gert, who I have now come to see as a friend and important mentor, is that life isn’t held together by logic, and that we’d better laugh about it. Seriously.
